Workshop of Artificial Intelligence Applied to Finance (WAIAF 2018)

Artificial Intelligence and Finance

Since early days of computing, researchers ask themselves where is the line that separates tasks that machines can do from those that only human beings can really accomplish. Several tasks were pointed as impossible to machines and later conquered by new advances in Artificial Intelligence. It seems the day when driving cars will be included among the tasks that machines can do in an efficient way is near. Certainly, machines will dominate activities that are even more complex in the future. Many researchers and practitioners believe that machines could perform several activities, such as asset trading and investment analysis, in the financial field. In fact, there is a significant research effort of academics, established practitioners and startups, in order to create algorithms and/or quantitative methods to analyze investments and negotiate securities.

Goals

The first Workshop of Artificial Intelligence Applied to Finance (WAIAF) aims to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, experiences and concerns related to applications of Artificial Intelligence to Finance. The overall goal of the WAIAF is to provide an opportunity for researchers, practitioners and students (with both, under-graduate and graduate background) to discuss their goals, methods, and results of their research. It also intends to help participants to establish a research network among researchers and practitioners .
