Maria Luisa L. de Faria MSc in Computer Science Dissertation Title: Regras Práticas para apresentação de páginas web em dispositivos fixos e móveis Advisor: Prof. Dr. José Silvério Edmundo Germano Dissertation for the degree of Master of Science was presented with due permission of Department of Computer Science and Engineering for public examination and debate in Auditorium Otto Weinbaum at ITA (Sao Paulo, Brazil) on the 23rd of March, 2007, at 2 p.m. |
Graduated from Federal University of Sao Carlos
in 2000 with a BS in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science / USP São Carlos. My research interests include new ways of using the latest technology to enhance the use of mobile computing devices, particularly in teaching and learning, for more exploration into the fusion of education and technology.

More about Mobile Learning
According to MOBIlearn the advances in computer technology, intelligent user interfaces, context modeling applications and recent developments in the field of wireless communications including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, multi-hop wireless LAN and global wireless technologies such as GPS, GSM, GPRS, 3G and satellite systems have created a wide array of new possibilities for technology users. When these technologies started to be used in conjunction with mobile computers a new learning paradigm, mobile learning, emerged. Mobile learning, or m-learning, has been defined as learning that takes place via such wireless devices as mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDA’s), or laptop computers. In the different definitions encountered in the literature, it is only the employment of specific types of technology that seem to differentiate mobile learning from other forms of learning. |

Perspectives
In the last few years, Europe and North America have experienced a new wave of technology. The growing number of adepts of portable computing based on technologies embedded on laptops, palmtops and smartphones which hold wireless connection and Bluetooth™ technology is notable. In Brazil, portable computing technology still isn’t popular. The main users of palmtops are in business and industry. The same fact that occurred with mobile phones must occur with palmtops, they will gain users while their main function increase and the price drops. Mobile devices tend reach pupils in all levels. Schools and teachers must be trained to achieve tasks on this scenario. |
